Poplar is a cream-colored hardwood that often features distinctive streaks of color. It looks fantastic unfinished but takes paint exceptionally well. Because poplar is not produced on as industrial a scale as pine is, it is widely considered to be more durable. More time is invested in growing the tree as well as milling and drying the wood. It will also show significantly fewer knots than pine.
